The Castle, Castletownshend is a stunning 17th Century castellated house overlooking the harbour of Castlehaven. Built by the Townshend family, the house gradually expanded with the towers being added in the 1800’s. Now 11 generations on and rejuvenated in 2016, The Castle offers both an authentic historic home, with its wood panelled walls, family portraits and museum like ornaments, and all the expected modern facilities such as ensuite bathrooms, heating and wifi.
A warm welcome awaits you at The Castle and make use of the honesty bar to relax and unwind in this peaceful setting. Every bedroom is individually named and decorated so each having it’s own charm, the balcony in “Army”, the large four poster bed in “Archbishops”, and the double bath in “Chavenage”, all making a unique and memorable stay. Breakfast is served each day in the Dining Room on the East side, perfect for the morning light to enjoy the fresh buffet table and order a hot cooked to order Irish breakfast.
Six of our unique rooms have sea views and King size beds which help you to enjoy the luxury of the accommodation offered at the Castle, Castletownshend. We have one twin room as an option and worth noting that all our rooms are accessed by stairs so there is also a ground floor room available upon request, all our rooms have private ensuite bathrooms.
Castletownshend is an unspoilt village set on a steep hill running all the way down to The Castle at the bottom, past the “Two Trees” in the middle of the road. The village has an air of days gone by with its old phone box, petrol pump and listed green water pumps. The village has much to offer with Mary Ann’s Bar & Restaurant just 2min walk from The Castle, serving award winning food all day throughout the year. Lil McCarthy’s pub at the top of the village is open for late drinks and hosts music throughout the summer months. The small village shop offers news papers, basics and the local gossip!

“The Castle is an authentic, aged like wine, period lodging with a warm embrace of the water inlet at your fingertips. Sharon was an excellent genuine hostess, and their dog sentry was dutiful with his friendliness as well. The elegant dining room with delicious freshly prepared meals with tall ceilings and fine furnishings makes you feel like royalty for the day.”
