A small handful of comments and reviews from past guests at Hidden Ireland’s Historic Houses.
"What a treat to stay in this handsome home. I can't imagine what work it is to maintain this old house and extensive gardens, but the owners do a great job of it, and we are delighted they were willing to welcome us. I think there is great variety in the rooms, so our experience may not be the same as yours. Our room was not at all fancy and the bath was tiny, but the small balcony and view were delightful. I think it was called the "Army" room. The breakfast was delicious and the staff was friendly. We especially loved Lassie the dog. I would be happy to stay here again, but it is not easy to reach."

"I recently booked a whole weekend house takeover at Temple House, with dinners on both nights and was delighted with the entire weekend. The food and wine list was fabulous even though a set menu for circa 24 people. Roderick and the staff were very friendly and obliging for a group with diverse requests, and also including catering for children. While at the end of October the weather is turning cold, I did not feel cold in the house. The rooms were lovely with nice vintage features and lovely views. We were just over 20 mins from Strandhill beach where we went for a lovely breezy stroll to blow away the cobwebs, and also went to the Eagles flying show just down the road - a bird of prey sanctuary, which was interesting to see."

"We stayed for one night as a family and had dinner too. The welcome was wonderful and the room , the yellow one called “Garden room” was beautiful. We had local craft beer and stunning food. To be honest we have not always had an ok food experience in country house places, which have other attractions and charms. Not so here, the food was really great thank you Paddy and Hannah. Total dedication to local quality produce and friendly but not intrusive approach. The library and animals all gorgeous. This place exemplifies why Irish ☘️ business which had a tough tough pandemic will bounce back. They deserve to do so well. We will be back!"

"I stayed for 2 nights with my mother. We were given a wonderfully warm welcome by Julia & Paddy. The quay house has an amazing collection of beautiful pictures, animal artefacts and quirky antiques, reflecting Julia’s artistic eye and previous career as an antiques dealer. We were given tea and delicious home cooked brack in one of the several cosy sitting rooms, where you can sink into a comfortable sofa or armchair to read a book in the sunshine, talk to fellow guests or plan the numerous activities on offer locally with Julia. The home cooked breakfasts are very generous in portion and set you up for the whole day. All served in a very inviting conservatory enabling you to look out across the bay at the sailing boats and seagulls. In short nothing is too much effort for Julia & Paddy truly exceptional hosts who welcome you into their home. Thank you for a very magical stay. I will be sure to return."

"We stayed at Lorum Rectory for 3 nights in July 2021. We are a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 children) together with 2 grandparents. We took the whole house. We can’t thank Bobbie and Rebecca enough for their incredible hospitality-nothing was too much trouble. Comfortable rooms (all en suite) fluffy towels, sumptuous beds and amazing food - this really is a special place. Thank you for making us feel so welcome."

"What an amazing welcome to Kiltariff Hall. The open fire in the drawing room was so cosy and Catherine shared some special memories of her childhood in the Rathfriland area where my father grew up. Fantastic breakfast with locally sourced produce."

"Fantastic hospitality for a lovely two night stay. Stayed at Kilmokea as a base for exploring the sunny south east. Lily bedroom was very comfortable and breakfast was very tasty. We dined there both nights and food was great. Being able stroll around and explore the gardens every day was bonus."

"We spent a wonderful time at Clonalis House. It was a real privilege to be surrounded by history and to be in the company the O'Connors. A special thank you to Piers for such a fascinating and interesting tour around the house. We learnt so much about the ancient and noble O'Connor lineage. Thanks also to Carol Ann and Richard for looking after us so well. Our room was spectacular - The Gold Room. We are keen to experience the cottages within the grounds when we return for our next stay."

"We stayed in Ashley Park last week for a wedding. I am dreaming of going back! The grounds and views are gorgeous. The bedrooms in the courtyard are sublime. Beds so comfy, underfloor heating & those rainfall showers!!! The food was gorgeous from the canapes to the breakfast. Staff went above & beyond to make sure we had a great day- special mention to Sheila who was so kind to my son. Everyone is still raving about the venue. The marquee/pavilion is so cosy & the views from it were amazing! We got stunning pics in the ceremony room too. Such a special place. Highly recommend"

"We had a wonderful stay here. Michael and John were excellent hosts and were very knowledgeable regarding the local history. A beautifully restored house, full of interesting and fascinating artefacts and paintings. Very comfortable bedrooms and surroundings giving the impression of staying in a private country house. We had a truly excellent dinner, delicious food served in a very attractive dining room the table laid out with lovely silver and ornaments. In the morning a wonderful breakfast, again beautifully cooked."
